Welcome to NonprofitNerd.org!
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008If you’ve found your way here, it probably means you are interested in finding cheap (or, even better, free) ways to meet the tech needs of your nonprofit organization. Believe me, I know how you feel. I do tech work for a nonprofit myself, and I understand very well how little money there is in the budget for even ground-level software. How many licenses for the latest version of Microsoft Office can your org afford? None? Mine, too.
Fortunately, there are low-or-no-cost options available for most if not all of your basic organizational needs. The mission of this site is to serve as centralized archive of information about the best alternatives to expensive commercial software and hardware. I will start by talking about some of the most commonly used free software tools for simple tasks like word processing or image editing. As we move forward, I’ll add more detailed articles about specific solutions for particular needs (video editing, for example).
I hope that anyone who visits this site, whether they work for a nonprofit or not, will find it a useful tool. As the archive grows, I hope that visitors will let me know about software that they have found useful but do not find listed here. I am always looking for new ways to expand my organization’s capacity, and I am sure other visitors to the site will feel the same.
